The Novato Branch of the American Association of University Women’s Annual Project Recognition and Tech Trek Awards will salute local girls at a tea on Saturday.
The public is cordially invited to tea Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at Novato Presbyterian Church to honor four Novato girls who will receive Project Recognition Award certificates, checks for $100 each and a specially selected book for each. Five Novato 7th grade girls will receive scholarships to Tech Trek Science Camp this summer at Stanford University. For reservations and more information call Sue Potter at 415-892-5569.
This year the Novato Branch of the American Association of University Women’s Project Recognition honors Megan Paddack, a senior at San Marin High School, who helps her peers with Photoshop and also serves on Novato Youth Council Youth Leadership & Advocacy. She was nominated by Katie Keating, Healthy Novato Project Director, Novato Youth Center; Denise Mozzetti, SMHS Counselor; and her mom.

- Serina Wesonga, senior at San Marin High School, is a peer educator at the Novato Wellness Center Teen Clinic where she has contributed more than 160 volunteer hours. Serina was nominated by Kara Vernor, Manager of Novato Youth Center’s Health and Wellness Center.
- Haley Pavone, a Novato High School junior, is the founder of Project Abundance, a teen community service project that harvests local yard and garden surplus which would otherwise go to waste and donates it to the Marin Food Bank for local families in need. Haley was nominated by Debbie Hagan, NHS Counselor; Jacque McLaughlin, Executive Director of Gilead House; and by her mom.
- Naomi Cavanaugh, an 8th grader at Our Lady of Loretto School, came to Novato in the middle of school year last year, joined the Speech and Debate Team, and this year, Naomi has taken an interest in singing opera. Naomi was nominated by her math/science teacher, Elizabeth Claverie.
Novato AAUW will also send five 7th grade girls to Tech Trek Science Camp at Stanford University this summer, $850 scholarships. Alyssa Maniscalco, Grace Ashcroft and Mariana Warcholski attend Sinaloa Middle School and were nominated by their science/math teachers, Ms. Thompson and Ms. Lavere. Megan Davies and Paige Modersohn attend Novato Charter School and were nominated by their math/science teacher, Mr. Kinney. The girls were required to write an essay and were interviewed by a panel of four women. The alternates are Grace Olson from Sinaloa and Marika Blacklock from Novato Charter School.
