On Saturday, April 13 at 8:24 p.m. the Novato Fire District responded to a report of a smoke alarm sounding and the smell of smoke located in a mobile home on the 1500 block of Armstrong Ave. Firefighters arrived on scene to find an active stove top fire.
Battalion Chief Jeff Veliquette reported that a quick thinking neighbor, who heard the smoke alarm alert, called 911 for help. No one was home at the time of the fire, so fire crews forced entry into the home through a sliding glass door. Firefighters discovered a smoke filled home with visible flames on the stove top. Firefighters extinguished the burning rice filled pot, which had been left unattended by the occupant. Fire crews were able to clear the home from smoke and secure the door with the assistance of neighbors.
The homeowner arrived back home shortly after firefighters gained entry into the home. Thanks to the responsive
actions of the next door neighbor that heard the smoke alarm and called 911, the damage was minimal and the homeowner was able to remain at home.
