Arrests Made at Novato 'Avoid the 13' Checkpoint

The DUI/driver's license checkpoint was held Friday night as part of a Marin 4th of July DUI crackdown.

Novato, CA — Three people were arrested Friday night during a DUI/driver's license checkpoint conducted by the Novato Police Department in cooperation with allied Marin County law enforcement agencies as part of an "Avoid the 13" DUI Task Force Fourth of July crackdown.

The checkpoint was held from 6 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Delong Avenue at Redwood Boulevard, according to a checkpoint results statement released by Novato police Sgt. Nick Frey.

Of 1,723 drivers who were screened, Frey said three were given field sobriety tests and two were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

The other arrest was a juvenile who was cited for allegedly resisting arrest and driving without a license, the sergeant said.

Additionally, 13 people were given citations for driving without a license; two people were cited for driving on a suspended license; four vehicles were towed; and two moving violations were issued.

"The Novato Police Department would like to thank all the drivers who participated in this educational operation and contributed to the success of deterring impaired driving and increasing public awareness," Frey said.
