Authorities Identify Pedestrian Killed On Highway 101 In Novato​

Justiniano Ixpec Cayazon, 49, was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking in the northbound lanes of Highway 101.

NOVATO, CA – Authorities have identied the man who was killed while walking on Highway 101 in Novato Sunday night.

Justiniano Ixpec Cayazon was fatally struck by a vehicle around 7 p.m. while walking in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Alameda del Prado overcrossing, according to the California Highway Patrol and Marin County Sheriff's Office. The 49-year-old, who was from Guatemala, was reportedly living in Novato.

The driver of the car stopped and rendered aid, officials said. First responders found Cayazon unconscious and unresponsive with traumatic injuries.

"Resuscitative medical aid was provided by passing motorists in addition to first responders upon their arrival at the scene," sheriff's officials said in a press release.

Despite their efforts, Cayazon was pronouced dead at the scene.

The cause and manner of the victim's death were pending a post mortem examination, toxicology results and the conclusion of a joint investigation by the California Highway Patrol and Marin County Sheriff's Office.
