Bicyclist Killed In Crash On Marin County Road: Police
The driver immediately stopped after the crash, attempted CPR and called 911, police said.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — A bicyclist died last Friday evening after being struck by an SUV on San Antonio Road in a rural area of Marin County, police said.
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on an unincorporated stretch of San Antonio Road, just south of the Marin-Sonoma county line and around 8 miles from Petaluma, according to the California Highway Patrol. The bicyclist was riding southbound when he was hit by a Toyota Highlander traveling in the same direction.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Kevin Simonis of Petaluma, immediately stopped after the crash, attempted CPR, and called 911, police said.

Deputies from the Marin County Sheriff's Office said they arrived shortly after and pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene roughly 15 minutes later.
Authorities are withholding the victim's name until family members can be notified.

Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
The tragedy underscores the ongoing challenge of traffic safety for bicyclists. In 2022, 1,105 bicyclists were killed in the United States, including 177 in California, according to UC Berkeley SafeTREC.
The CHP's Marin division is leading the investigation into Friday's collision and is asking any witnesses to contact its Santa Rosa office.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office is handling coroner duties while the CHP continues its traffic investigation.
