My Ford Saved My Life: Hit by a Mack truck and dragged by a garbage wagon, one Ford driver walks away safe
The story of a Ford driver who walked away from an accident that would have claimed her life were it not for her car.
There’s a good chance that Tracey Schafer from Santa Rosa is part feline, because she surely used up some of her nine lives after a recent car accident. Although she’s currently “sore and saddened,” Ms. Schafer is alive today thanks to her car.
“My Ford saved my life,” said Schafer, who is currently recuperating from her ordeal. After being hit from behind by a Mack truck, she was thrown into the next lane into the path of a garbage truck, which then dragged her vehicle for a few seconds. Unable to extricate her car, Ms. Schafer was then sandwiched in between the garbage truck and the Mack truck, all within the confines of her 2010 Mercury Milan hybrid.
“The rear window and trunk were the first things to go,” Schafer said of her experience. “My seat and doors stayed secure.” Although the vehicle was able to protect Schafer during the collision, it is now a total loss awaiting scrapping.

Don Phimister of Journey Ford heard Ms. Schafer’s story when she inquired about staying within the Ford family and purchasing her next car at the Novato dealership. Her confidence in the Ford name convinced her to investigate a new Ford vehicle to replace her Mercury Milan.
“This is a tragic story that didn’t have to happen, but it has a happy ending,” said Phimister, a Ford product specialist. “Ms. Schafer walked away from something that most people don’t have the option to come away from. Although we won’t be able to replace the fun times and good memories she had with her Mercury Milan, I’m confident we’ll be able to find Tracey a standout new car that both protects
her just as solidly and gives her the enjoyable experience on the road. She’s
truly a living example of how your choice of car can make a difference in your
life’s journey, and we wish her a speedy recovery.”
