College Of Marin Police To Host Training For First Responders

The active killer and rescue task force training will take place July 18 through Aug. 29 at the Indian Valley Campus in Novato.

NOVATO, CA – In an effort to make the College of Marin's campuses as safe as possible, the college's police department is hosting active killer and rescue task force training for first responders. The training will take place from July 18 through Aug. 29 at the Indian Valley Campus in Novato.

Community members may see police and firefighters at the campus at 1800 Ignacio Blvd. during the training, but there is no cause for alarm, College of Marin officials said. First responders from Marin County police and fire departments will be on campus participating in the exercises.

Activities will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in and around the Miwok Cluster (Buildings 13, 14, 15 and 16) during the training. Community members may see police and firefighters running outside to access various entry points and walking to and from the training through campus parking lots, according to College of Marin. Additionally, scenarios will be run that may include smoke, popping sounds, yelling, general commotion, and the presence of first responder vehicles and replica firearms.

The area will be blocked off to prevent non-first responders from wandering into the area. Students, faculty and staff have been advised to conduct their normal business and avoid the Miwok Cluster. The training should not have any impact on existing classroom instruction or campus activities, according to College of Marin.
