Councilmember's Column (July 13 - July 19)
Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
This past week the City Council had the privilege to conduct interviews for various boards and commissions in the city. In past cycles, interest on some of the boards has been lean, but this time around we had so many candidates that we needed 2 nights to complete the interviews. Overall, 51 individuals applied for positions on the different boards.
It is very encouraging to see the interest by so many in the community who want to give back this capacity. Before running for council myself, I started as a commissioner on the Recreational, Cultural, and Community Services commission. The experience was eye opening, a fair amount of work, and also very rewarding. If you ever find yourself asking about ways to contribute or volunteer in Novato, be sure to keep and eye on these boards and commissions or maybe even attend one or two meetings.
Also, thanks to all past and present commissioners for your service – it is much appreciated.
