Councilmember's Column (July 20 - July 26)

Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
To tax or not to tax, that is the question. As many of you know, there is a significant item on our agenda at tomorrow night’s council meeting regarding whether or not a sales tax measure should be placed on the November ballot, and if so, for how much and for how long.

I have received a fair amount of emails and phone calls ahead of tomorrow night’s meeting and heard a lot of feedback on all sides of the coin. I have some thoughts and ideas of my own, but they will have to wait until our meeting tomorrow night where we will have the opportunity to discuss the issue as a council.

I would be interested to hear from those who read my blog though. What are you thoughts?

Around Town
Space Station Museum Ribbon Cutting – Glad to have attended the ribbon cutting at the Space Station Museum in Pacheco Plaza this past week. Did you know that since opening in 2011, they have had 30,000 visitors! Make sure you swing by this Saturday the check out their annual Space Festival – details below. Pictures from Ribbon Cutting.

17th Annual Sunset Criterium Rolls through San Rafael – I usually only write about events in Novato, but the Criterium this past Saturday is definitely blog worthy (I am also biased since I helped organize this year’s event with an amazing team of co-workers from Mike’s Bikes). The races and crowds were electric as amateur and pro cyclists pedaled through the downtown course at nearly 30 MPH. If you have never watched a Criterium, put the event on your calendar for next year. You can read more about this year’s event here.

Sundays on Sherman Draws a Crowd – The fun never stopped this weekend as the activities and great weather brought out hundreds to the Civic Green. Kudos to the Parks and Recreation team and City Staff for putting on this great community event. Pictures
