Councilmember's Column (June 15 - June 21)
Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
The announcement by Fireman’s Fund has certainly been the talk around town this past week and rumors are certainly circulating about who may be interested in the vast office space on San Marin Drive. The opportunity is truly a unique one for the City of Novato and some big names have been swirling around town, mentioned in a Marin IJ article here, and even illustrated here. In fact, over the past several weeks, I have probably been asked about the rumors more than any other issue.
While it is interesting to speculate who the new tenants might be, it is even more important to recognize the current tenants, Fireman’s Fund, who have occupied the space for over 4 decades and have given significantly to our community over those years. Fireman’s Fund has employed thousands of workers—many of whom lived in Novato. It would be quite rare to find someone in Novato who doesn’t know someone who works or previously worked for the company. I can even recall attending a few employee festivals back in the 80’s and 90’s with a friend whose mom worked for the company. Fireman’s Fund hasn’t just been a good neighbor to Novato, they have been a great neighbor and have continually contributed back to the community. They also played a significant role in helping to get the SMART train off the ground.
So before we quickly turn our attention to the future, let’s be sure to recognize and thank Fireman’s Fund for their countless contributions to the City of Novato.

Domino’s is Coming Back to Novato – Just learned earlier this week that Domino’s is coming to Novato in July. That sure brings back some memories. Who remembers the old Domino’s next to Ed’s Liquor and the dry cleaners where Armstrong Nursery is now located?
