Councilmember's Column (October 19 - October 25)
Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
It’s the final countdown—Election Day is only 8 days away. It has been a very active campaign or at least is has seemed to be much more active than what I recall from 4 years ago. After months of campaigning, door-to-door neighborhood canvassing, dozens of candidate interviews and forums, we are now in the final days.
The most memorable part of the campaign is certainly engaging with residents at their front doors. The conversations are insightful, memorable, and have helped me better represent all residents of Novato. The hospitality is also much appreciated as many individuals would offer me something to drink on the hot days and several would invite me inside to chat a little more.
As we start to wrap things up, I want to encourage everyone to be sure to vote and tell others to vote. There are over 28,000 registered voters in Novato, but chances are only 1/3 of them will vote in this election. Just two years ago, only 9,450 votes were cast. As of today, 3,440 votes have been cast via mail so there is plenty more voting to be done. If you are a permanent absentee voter, be sure to mail your ballot on or before Tuesday, November 3rd. You can always vote at the polls as well.
