Disturbance at Novato Store Prompts Hazmat Response

Officers are investigating the incident as a crime, police said

The Marin County Hazmat Team responded Sunday evening to a store in Novato after a man allegedly threw a bag containing an unknown substance on the floor, police said.

Officers responded at 5:07 p.m. to the Harvest Market store at 155 San Marin Drive on a report of the disturbance, according to police.

The substance, which had a chemical odor, spilled on the floor and a counter, police said. Novato firefighters evacuated the store.

The hazardous materials team evaluated the substance and helped clean it up, according to police.
