This is the second weekend in a row that the DMV will be open on a Saturday, and approximately 11,000 Californians took advantage of it last weekend, officials said.
The DMV said in July it will expand to opening 43 field offices on the first and third Saturday of each month as part of an effort to ease weekday wait times.
Appointments are not required, but always are encouraged and can be scheduled up to 90 days in advance using the DMV’s website or calling 1-800-777-0133. To see the full list of offices with Saturday hours, click here.
The DMV offered the following tips and reminders:
- Customers applying for a REAL ID driver license or identification card should visit REALID.dmv.ca.gov to make sure they have the required documents to apply for the federal compliant cards. Individuals who choose to apply for a REAL ID must visit a DMV field office. View the full list of acceptable documents on DMV’s website.
- Individuals can avoid making a trip to a field office by using DMV’s online services at www.dmv.ca.gov. Online services allow customers to renew their driver license and ID card, pay a registration suspension fee, file a notice of transfer and release of liability, order personalized license plates, add or remove an affidavit of non-use from a vehicle on record, request a driver or vehicle record, and much more.
- Customers can easily and quickly renew their vehicle registration by using a DMV Now Self-Service Terminal, which prints a new registration card and license plate tag on the spot. The kiosk is available in 60 field offices and 39 grocery stores.
