DUI Highway Crash Costs Officer His Badge In Marin County

The officer's high-speed crash overturned a civilian's car on the highway, prosecutors said.

NOVATO, CA — A Novato Police Department officer had his law enforcement certification taken away after his second DUI ended with him speeding on a highway and crashing into a car, officials said.

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training said they revoked the California law-enforcement certification of Novato Police Officer Kendrick Pilegaard because of his two DUI convictions, including one where he crashed into a civilian’s car causing it to overturn while speeding on Highway 101.

In August 2025, the NPD stated Pilegaard had separated from the department after a complaint and an investigation into misconduct.

Pilegaard had his California law-enforcement certification suspended at that time.

It was also reported that he had been convicted of a DUI with a blood alcohol of at least .15, according to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
