Eclectic ensemble offers free concert on Oct. 22

Enjoy jazz and classical music with Sonic Forest in a free concert on Oct. 22 at The Key Room

Sonic Forest, an ensemble of professional musicians, will offer a free concert from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in The Key Room at Homeward Bound of Marin’s Next Key Center, 1385 N. Hamilton Blvd. in Novato.

Their repertoire covers classical music, improvisations, world music, American folk, show tunes and ‘oldies,’ and light jazz. The concert will precede a celebrity chef event featuring cookbook author Joyce Jue - tickets still available - with proceeds to benefit Homeward Bound.

Brenda Schuman-Post, who plays oboe, spearheaded an effort by Sonic Forest to offer several free concerts at Homeward Bound programs this year. She organized the concerts after playing with The Marin Project, a charitable effort that recorded an eclectic album by the same name last year to benefit Homeward Bound.

“Once I understood what Homeward Bound is about, I made the decision to do my utmost to play concerts there,” she says. The San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music made a grant to underwrite the program with support from The Magic Flute music store.

The Sonic Forest performances began in February with Homeward Bound and include music at the Fireside Apartments in Mill Valley, a permanent supportive housing program for seniors and families, and Warner Creek Senior Housing in Novato.
