Crews Quickly Contain Grass Fire Off SR-37 In Novato

NOVATO, CA – Firefighters quickly contained a grass fire that sparked Tuesday afternoon along state Route 37 in Novato.

The fire was first reported around 1:15 p.m. off westbound SR-37, east of the Petaluma River Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP, Marin County Fire Department, Novato Fire Protection District and Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

"This field is frequently plowed so the grass was short and didn't burn fast," CHP officials said on Facebook.

Smoke was visible from the highway and slowed traffic, according to the CHP. Officials urged the public to use caution in the area.

Firefighters remained on scene to mop up the area.
