Hail Storms, Lightning Strikes Hit North Bay

Officials advise motorists to ease off gas and slow down​ when driving on hail-covered roads.

NORTH BAY, CA – Rolling thunder, lightning strikes, heavy rain and hail storms hit parts of the North Bay on Thursday afternoon, prompting officials to urge motorists to use caution while driving on Bay Area roadways.

From Napa to Novato, residents shared photos and videos of small hail falling across the North Bay.

Officials advised motorists to ease off gas and slow down when driving on hail-covered roads.

"Use caution as hail can act like ball bearings and make roads very slippery," weather officials said on social media.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely through the afternoon in the North Bay, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of showers Thursday night.

The thunderstorms are the result of a cold front moving across the state.
