Hopmonk Replaces Cancelled Michelle Shocked Show with LGBT Comedy Benefit
100 percent of the proceeds from the "Comedy for Equality" show will go to the Spectrum LGBT Center, serving the North Bay.

Hopmonk Tavern Novato has announced a special comedy show has been booked for the cancelled Michelle Shocked show on March 29 with 100 percent of the proceeds to be distributed to the San Rafael-based Spectrum LGBT Center, serving the North Bay.
Shocked, an alternative-folk singer, was quickly cancelled by the tavern’s management in a Facebook post after reports of an anti-gay rant that took place at Yoshi’s in San Francisco.
Self-described as “your average anarchist skateboard punk rock born again Christian,” Shocked has since apologized and said that her comments were misinterpreted.

The replacement show, “Comedy for Equality,” will feature Marga Gomez and Johnny Steele.
Gomez is a triple winner of the SF Bay Guardian’s “Best Comedian” award and calls her show a “high energy, proudly Latina, openly gay, slightly dorky, tragically sexy, laugh getting act.”

Steele categorizes himself as humorist, muckraker, political satirist and hater of the stupid.
He performed in Novato earlier this year at a sold-out comedy show at Las Guitarras restaurant, quipping on his Facebook page that “the room seats like nine people.”
Tickets for the show are $20 online or $25 at the door for ages 18+. Doors to the Session Room open at 7 p.m and the show begins at 8 p.m.
