Jackknifed Rig on Highway 37 Leads to Traffic Nightmare

All eastbound lanes were closed for a few hours, the CHP reports.

A big-rig jackknifed on eastbound state Highway 37 on Mare Island in Vallejo shortly after noon Monday, closing all eastbound lanes of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 12:05 p.m. near the Walnut Avenue off-ramp. Traffic was backed up for several miles and drivers were trying to drive past the scene on the right shoulder of eastbound Highway 37.

The CHP diverted traffic onto state Highway 121 but some drivers turned around and drove west on eastbound Highway 37, CHP officials said.

It wasn't until 3:01 p.m. that the California Highway Patrol reported on its incident log that the roadway was back open.

No other details about the crash were immediately available.
