Library Leaks: Novato Branch Closure Extended

A target reopening date is set for March 2, Marin County officials said.

NOVATO, CA – Continued roof leaks and more needed repairs have forced an extension of the Novato Library’s closure, according to officials. The target date for reopening is March 2.

The branch at 1720 Novato Blvd. reopened Jan. 22 after undergoing renovation of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning units that began Dec. 1, Marin County staff said.

Roof leaks, meanwhile, forced another closure on Feb. 2. While the Marin County Free Library planned to have it reopened by Feb. 16, MCFL Director Sara Jones said an additional two weeks of closure is a precaution to prevent damage from storms or unresolved leaks.

The hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. MCFL is not charging fines for late materials.

And a popup branch inside a former shoe store at the Northgate mall in Terra Linda – originally an experiment during the holiday season – remains open, county staff said. A partnership between the mall owner, MCFL and the San Rafael Library, the popup branch will continue operations through the end of March. Hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
