​Man Arrested For Attempted Murder In Novato

A Berkeley man was arrested for attempted murder after shots were fired into an occupied vehicle in Novato, police said.

NOVATO, CA — A 30-year-old Berkeley man was arrested for attempted murder after shots were fired into an occupied vehicle Saturday night in Novato, police said.

The incident happened near Bolling Drive and Captain Nurse Circle where several callers reported gunshots at 10:35 p.m.

Witnesses flagged down arriving officers to point out a white Honda Accord on Captain Nurse Circle.

Police conducted a high-risk stop of the Honda and detained Andrew Nicholas Gibbs of Berkeley.

In the car officers found a black Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the driver's door pocket of the Honda.

The victims, a 30-year-old male from Antioch and a 27-year-old female from Novato, "reported that Gibbs fired several rounds at their vehicle while they were driving eastbound on Bolling Drive," police said in an announcement. "The fired rounds struck the victim's vehicle in the driver's headrest, front driver's door, front passenger door and window" but didn't hit either occupant.

Police interviewed Gibbs and the two victims, along with numerous witnesses and determined that "the victim and suspect knew each other and the shooting occurred after a dispute."

Gibbs was booked at the Marin County Jail for attempted murder.

Marin County Sheriff's Office investigators assisted the Novato Police Department with the case.
