Man Follows 3 Girls Near Novato Elementary School​: Police

Extra patrols are planned in the area of Lynwood Elementary School​.

NOVATO, CA – A man followed three girls as they walked to a Novato elementary school Friday morning, police said.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. as they walked on Sunset Parkway near Leafwood Drive toward Lynwood Elementary School, according to the Novato Police Department.

A man in a white pickup truck drove next to the students and said "hey" multiple times, police said. The girls ignored the man and kept walking to school.

After arriving at the school at 1320 Lynwood Drive, the girls said they spotted the same man driving through the parking lot in front of the campus. He was described as a white male in his 50s with long blond or white hair driving a white older model Ford truck.

"The Novato Police Department works in partnership with the Novato Unified School District to do everything possible to ensure the safety of all students," police said in a press release. "We would like to remind parents to talk to their children about safe practices when walking or bicycling to school, including avoiding talking to strangers and being aware of their surroundings. The children in this case are commended for quickly reporting the incident to school staff."

Police have not received similar reports, but extra patrols were planned in the area.

The incident remained under investigation.
