Marin County Youth Commission seeks new applicants!
Marin County Youth Commission is a youth leadership opportunity that focuses on social justice and racial equity projects and campaigns.
One of the Youth Leadership Institute’s programs, the Marin County Youth Commission, is currently seeking new applicants.
Founded in 1969, the Marin County Youth Commission (MCYC) is one of the oldest and most well regarded youth commissions in the United States. Made up of diverse youth between the ages of 12 and 23, MCYC’s goal is to act as a political voice for young people to the Marin County Board of Supervisors and other policy makers. Supported by staff from the Youth Leadership Institute, MCYC benefits from youth development training, conducts community based research throughout the county on a variety of issues in order to determine how best to make an impact, and launches youth advocacy and social justice campaigns that combat community inequity and raise awareness regarding community issues. In many cases these campaigns entail changing or implementing existing policies or laws, or establishing new ones that make Marin County a better place for all the youth in Marin County. In the past MCYC has worked on issues relating to food justice, LGBTQ safety, alcohol, and environmental justice.
We are currently accepting new applicants within the ages of 12-23 who live and/or go to school in Marin County. Applications are due to the YLI office (910 Irwin Street, San Rafael) by Friday, July 24th, 2015 by 5pm. We especially encourage youth of color, LGBTQ youth, and youth who live in rural parts of Marin to apply!
