North Marin United 04 Boys Green, State Champions

The North Marin United U11 Boys Green team became State Cup Champions on January 24. This was a long and hard battle that came down to 11 determined boys giving all they have to the very end. The turning point towards victory came when they beat California Odyssey South 04 Black 7-2 on January 16 forcing a 3 way tie, and earning them a place in Norcal State Cup top 8. Six of the seven goals were made by Sebastian Carbajal and one by Elvin Maldonaldo. Equally as important as the goals were the saves made by goal keeper Jorge Arellano who was assisted by a strong defense. After that win, teamwork and great soccer kicked in, leading to three impressive victories 6-0 against San Juan Lightening 05 Blue, 6-1 against SMC Star 04B Gold and 6-1 in the final match against Tecos Hayward SC Tecos Oro.

For the final game the boys came out onto the field clam and ready to play. A free kick gave Tecos the first goal. NMU Boys quickly came back to tie the game 1-1, with an impressive goal by Sebastian Carbajal. He scored another goal just before half-time, giving NMU a 2-1 lead. Something kicked in the second half. The boys say that they “unleashed a dragon” and four more goals were theirs before the final whistle blew. Two more goals were scored by Sebastian Carbajal, one by Roan Goertz and one by Christopher DeLeon with assists from Garratt Army, Elvin Maldonaldo and center-mid Roan Goertz. The defense, led by Oscar Castro, Christopher DeLeon, Emarson Dearborn, Robert Little and Kleber Maldonaldo and goalie Jorge Arellano, shut down the other team in the second half, not allowing any more goals.

For those watching the games, they witnessed impressive soccer by a team layered with talent. There was no doubt that these boys deserved to be champions.
