Novato To Begin Redistricting Process After 2020 Census Results

Every ten years, local governments across the country adjust how district lines are drawn based on U.S. Census data.

NOVATO, CA —The city of Novato is seeking public comment as city council looks to redraw district lines.

Every ten years, local governments across the country adjust how district lines are drawn based on U.S. Census data to make sure the districts are relatively equal in population. This is a new process for Novato, as the city transitioned to establishing City Council districts in 2019.

The city will hold two public hearings before the draft maps are finalized, on Sept. 28 and Oct. 26, both at 6 p.m. After the maps are released, the city will hold two more public hearings in January and February 2022.

The city's redistricting deadline is April 17, 2022.
