Novato Man Arrested For Battery, Brandishing Knife: Police
Lamont Elkins was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, brandishing a weapon other than a firearm and battery resulting in injury.

NOVATO, CA — A man was arrested over the weekend in Novato on suspicion of attacking and trying to rob someone, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a battery at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday in the area of Redwood Boulevard and San Marin Drive. The victim told officers he was approached by the suspect, who waved a knife, threatened him and demanded his wallet, Novato police said.
The victim said he swung a backpack at the suspect in an effort to get away from him. The suspect then tripped the victim and hit him several times in the face, while the victim was on the ground, police said.

The suspect did not take the victim's wallet and left on a bicycle.
While searching the area, an officer found a man who fit the victim's description of the suspect. He was identified as Lamont Elkins, a 31-year-old Novato transient.

Elkins was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery, brandishing a weapon other than a firearm and battery resulting in great bodily injury.
The victim was taken to a hospital.
