Novato Man Suspected of Robbing Bank at Knifepoint Arrested

David Baty allegedly demanded money from Umpqua Bank and fled with an undisclosed amount.

Police arrested a man suspected of robbing the Umpqua Bank in Novato at knifepoint Wednesday morning.

The robbery at 999 Grant Ave. was reported at 9:34 a.m.

The suspect, later identified as 55-year-old David Baty of Novato, demanded money from bank staff at knifepoint and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Sgt. Michael Howard said.

Patrol officers responded quickly and found Baty in a nearby business, Howard said. Baty was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery and booked in the Marin County Jail.
