The Novato North Phillies won the Little League Majors City Title last Tuesday evening after beating the Novato South Yankees 2 games to 1 in a best of three series. Game 1 - Thursday 5/23 – Yankees 9 – Phillies 5 Jason Bernardy paced the Yankees in Game 1 hitting a three run homer in the first inning and a two run homer in the fourth. Caden Franceschini and Max Lucchesi reached base multiple times and each scored two runs. On the mound, Bernardy pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs while striking out 10. Franceschini pitched a scoreless sixth inning. For the Phillies, Andrew Olson was 3 for 3 and Beau McAndrew and Matt Lozovoy each had two hits. Game 2 – Monday 5/27 – Phillies 5 – Yankees 3 Luke Shroyer gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead in Game 2 with a bases loaded walk in the first and a single and two RBI’s in the top of the third. The Phillies came roaring back with a two run homer by Beau McAndrew with two outs in the bottom of the third and a three run homer by Matt Lozovoy with two outs in the bottom of the 5th. Frankie Donnelly of the Phillies got the rallies started with two outs in both the 3rd and 5th innings. Parker Allen started on the mound for the Phillies before giving way to Ryan Cendak. Ten year old Cendak had an outstanding day pitching 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits. Matt Lozovoy came in to pitch a scoreless sixth inning. Caden Franceschini pitched a complete game for the Yankees, striking out 7. Game 3 - Tuesday 5/28 – Phillies 11 – Yankees 1 In Game 3 Matt Lozovoy pitched a complete game for the Phillies striking out 14 and allowing 4 hits. Kalen El Masri had a key RBI single in the 2nd inning. Jason Bernardy pitched for the Yankees allowing 6 runs over three innings. Bernardy was also 2-2 at the plate, including his third home run of the series. The Phillies were again paced by the heart of their order as Beau McAndrew, Matt Lozovoy and Andrew Olson combined to hit .593 in the series with 12 RBI’s. The Yankees hitting attack was led by Jason Bernardy going 5 for 5 (2 singles, 3 homeruns) with 4 walks for the series. The Phillies (21-6), winners of the Novato North Regular Season and the Novato North Playoffs, will go on to play in the District 3 Tournament of Champions (TOC). The Yankees (15-9), winners of the Novato South Regular Season, are the number 1 seed in the Novato South Playoffs that began on 6/1. The winner of the South Playoffs will also compete in the District 3 TOC.
