Novato Police K-9 Units Headed to Summer Camp

The K-9 units will be accompanied by officers as part of an informational program in support of Marin Humane Society youth programs.

“Ingo,” “Lex,” and “Metz,” work long hours without complaints chasing down street toughs and putting dope dealers behind bars.

This summer, they're all going to camp.

The Novato Police Department's three canine units will be accompanied by trained law enforcement handlers throughout the summer attending a Marin Human Society youth program.

The K-9 teams will provide informational demonstrations.

Officers will describe their work and their dogs, explaining how man's best friend contributes to public safety. They'll probably toss a few biscuits along the way too.

“The kids always have questions for the officers and are excited about meeting the dogs,” Novato Police Chief Jim Berg said in a prepared statement.

“We are proud of our canine program and our handlers, Corporal Kevin Naugle and 'Ingo,' Officer Kendrick Pilegaard and 'Lex' and Officer Jeff Ames and 'Metz' are an invaluable asset to our department and the community.”

The canine teams are on the job daily. All are trained in handler protection, article searches and narcotics detection.
