Novato Schools Get $1.3 Million Under Proposed Gov Budget, District Official Says

Funding would go to staff development, instructional upgrades, superintendent says.

Local schools will get $1.3 million under Gov. Jerry Brown's proposed budget.

That's according to Novato Unified School District Superintendent Shalee Cunningham, who said in a statement today that the money will go to improvements benefiting students attending Novato's public schools.

Brown's budget deal, which is expected to be voted on this week, has the blessings of top legislative leaders, according to published reports.

The state money will fund staff development, technological integration and instructional supplies related to the Common Core State Standards, Cunningham's statement said.

Innovative educational programs will be implemented soon, she said.

"Education is changing the way we do business; this is a very exciting time for all of us," Cunningham's statement read.

"Project-based learning, intervention strategies, and an emphasis on English Language Development are highlights of what's to come."
