Novato Unified Names New Superintendent

Kris Cosca has been selected as the new superintendent of Novato Unified School District.

NOVATO, CA – The Novato Unified School District Board has named Kris Cosca as the new superintendent. Cosca currently serves as the district's district deputy superintendent of human resources and strategic development.

"Kris possesses the skills and experience that are the right fit for our district and will provide continuity and focus," Board President Debbie Butler said in a press release. "He will continue to work closely with our staff, parents and community to move our current initiatives forward and to further our commitment to 'Engage, Inspire and Empower' every student."

Cosca has worked in public school systems for 27 years, serving as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of curriculum and instruction, and both director and assistant superintendent of human resources.

During his four years with Novato Unified School District, he has played a key role in the executive cabinet, coached and provided leadership development of principals and other managers, led the elementary principal team, served as lead negotiator with union partners, overseen the reorganization of the district's human resources department, and developed and rolled out the employee appreciation program, according to the district.

"I've really enjoyed the past four years at NUSD and am excited to take on this new role," Cosca said. "NUSD is a wonderful district with talented staff and incredible community support. I look forward to working with staff, families and the community to ensure every student fulfills their greatest potential."

Cosca earned his doctorate in organizational leadership and obtained a chief business officer certification from the California Association of Business Officials.

He is married and lives in Napa, where his wife teaches biology and AVID and coordinates the school's AVID program. He has two children. His daughter attends college in Southern California and his son is a high school senior.

Cosca's first day as superintendent will be July 1. He will step in for Jim Hogeboom, who was recently named superintendent for the San Rafael City Schools.
