Novato Unified School District VLA K-5 Newsletter For May 6
'Every year we celebrate teacher appreciation week but this year above all others is important to recognize and celebrate TEACHERS.'
May 6, 2021
This is Teachers Appreciation Week. Every year we celebrate teacher appreciation week but this year above all others is important to recognize and celebrate TEACHERS. Teaching this year has presented one challenge after next and our VLA teachers met those challenges with immense skill and dedication. They never wavered from their commitment to your children, so please send each of your teachers an email of thanks or appreciation.

Student Spotlight Eva E. Rozoff VLA 4/5
Eva is a wonderful example of a student with a Growth Mindset. She believes in her ability to succeed and doesn’t give up. Eva is always attentive during our virtual conversations; she is a good listener and asks questions to gain new information or to challenge all of us to think more deeply about a topic. Eva is also a clear communicator. From sharing her Colorado salt-dough map or Seed Dispersal Chart on Flipgrid, to reading her State Expo story, “Car Cushions in Colorado” or information essays about Tik Tok or the Gold Rush, Eva explains facts thoroughly and shares them clearly, with expression. Despite the challenges of Virtual Learning, Eva has developed strong connections with her VLA classmates and collaborates with them in breakout rooms, displaying a willingness to listen and an ability to organize and focus her teammates when necessary. But the best thing about Eva is that personal determination to challenge herself during every learning opportunity and make it a positive experience.

VLA Survey- PLEASE FILL OUT THE SURVEY
In response to the pandemic, the Novato Unified School District launched the Virtual Learning Academy to provide a remote only option for students during the 2020-2021 school year. As this year comes to a close and NUSD prepares for a full pre-pandemic return to schools in the fall 2021, we recognize a virtual only learning environment has been beneficial for some students.
Below is a link to a survey gauging our community’s interest in creating a virtual only program. Please respond to the survey to let us know if you are likely to enroll in a virtual program. The Survey will be open through May 10, 2021
