On Friday, June 14th, fifteen Novato Youth Center Pre-School graduates received diplomas as their proud teachers, parents and family members cheered them on . Graduating from this 21st Century Pre-School program has these grads well prepared for Kindergarten success in the fall.
Though through a child's eye it's all been play, the Center's curriculum includes many intentional components to ensure children have the essential tools needed to be successful in life, including creative and critical thinking skills. In partnership with the Novato Unified School District (NUSD) the Center participates in the Pre-K to 3rd Grade Initiative, aligning its curriculum to ensure early school success for its graduates.
"We find that partnering with the school district and focusing on professional development for our teachers gives us the advantage of bringing the most current and proven practices to our children. When parents select a Pre-School for their child, they expect a program with long-lasting results, and we provide that." , notes Judy Nielsen, the Center's Early Care and Education Program Manager.
Most Novato Youth Center grads will continue on at the Center for a summer of Kindergarten Readiness, including education and play in the areas of: language arts; science; math; conflict resolution; theater and visual arts; nutrition and table manners, field trips and more.
Limited openings are still available for the summer months, and the fall program is filling quickly. For more information or to schedule a tour, please conact Heathr Sorbes, the Center's Child Development Program Coordinator, at hsorber@novatoyouthcenter.org, or by calling her at (415) 892-1643.
The Novato Youth Center is a private non-profit organization in its 37th year of serving over 4,200 youth and their families annually, in 5 core program areas. The Center's participants span the ages of 18 months to young adulthood, and its mission is to inspire and prepare youth for success. To learn more, please visit www.novatoyouthcenter.org.
