NovatoSpirit Kids Invited to Lead Novato City Council in Pledge of Allegiance

Novato Mayor Pat Eklund on May 17 invited NovatoSpirit tae kwon do and karate students to lead the City Council in the Pledge of Allegiance

May has been an eventful month for NovatoSpirit, a nonprofit that helps low-income children increase their physical and mental health through sports.

Mayor Pat Eklund invited some of our kids (pictured here) to lead the Novato City Council in the Pledge of Allegiance before the City Council meeting. This was an exceptional honor for our kids, who were also thrilled to learn that they were on a live television show.

If you want to watch, the Pledge will be rebroadcast on Channel 27 May 18 at 7 p.m., May 19 at 12 noon, and May 21 at 7 p.m.

Also this month, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ito of the White Tiger Karate School hosted a karate tournament to benefit NovatoSpirit. Several of our karate kids performed—and won medals—and $330 was raised for us. We appreciate the newspaper announcements about this event by the Marin Independent Journal and Novato Advance.

Meantime, Tara-Caprice Broadwater of Love2Dance has been preparing our dance students and their classmates for a sensational spring performance at the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29. The public is welcome to attend.

Also attentive to our kids is Unity in Marin, which gave a $500 grant in order to help us serve more youths. And a generous Novato couple gave us $200 to enable two children to play soccer.

Our gratitude is immense!
