PG&E Releasing Natural Gas Monday In Novato

Crews will vent gas as part of an ongoing project to install automated safety valves in the neighborhood, according to PG&E.

NOVATO, CA – Pacific, Gas and Electric crews will release natural gas Monday in Novato.

Crews will start "venting gas" around 1:30 p.m. from a pipeline at 1001 South Novato Blvd. The "blow down," which could last through 5 p.m., is part of PG&E's ongoing project to install automated safety valves in the neighborhood, according to PG&E spokeswoman Deanna Contreras.

As PG&E vents the pipe, the smell of natural gas and the sound of venting may be noticeable to nearby homes and businesses, depending on the wind direction, Contreras said. PG&E will use carbon filters to reduce noise and odor, she said.

The natural gas will quickly dissipate into the atmosphere and will not be harmful, Contreras said. However, PG&E encourages anyone who has concerns about natural gas odors in or around their home or business to call 1-800-743-5000.

"The safety of our customers, crews and communities we serve is our top priority," Contreras said.
