San Rafael Man Identified as Victim in Deadly Crash

His truck hit a metal pole and several trees before overturning multiple times and coming to rest down an embankment, according to the CHP.

A 40-year-old man killed in a crash late Saturday night near Orinda has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as San Rafael resident Benjamin Drew.

The crash was reported at 10:58 p.m. on San Pablo Dam Road just north of Orinda, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Drew was driving north in a 1992 Nissan pickup truck when, for some reason, the car veered into the opposite lane of traffic and then went off the roadway, CHP officials said.

The truck hit a metal pole and several trees before overturning multiple times and coming to rest down an embankment, according to the CHP. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
