Good Shepherd Lutheran School held its annual Halloween parade, Thursday, October 31. This year, the students took action to give hunger a real fright. Joining forces with Free the Children, the school and students held an annual food drive during the parade as part of Free the Children’s We Scare Hunger, hunger awareness campaign. A surprise flash mob to Michael Jackson’s Thriller helped make the event even more frightful.
“This has been a fun and important educational campaign for our students,” says Director of School, Karen Kane. “46.2 million Americans live in poverty and free or price-reduced lunches are provided to 31.8 million children in America every day. This is a serious problem, and getting our students to take action is truly powerful.”
The flash mob was a surprise to parade spectators and was choreographed by Gretchen Simon, Good Shepherd Lutheran School’s drama and music instructor. “The flash mob to Thriller was a lot of fun and the students worked incredibly hard to memorize the routine for their parents. Combining the flash mob with the We Scare Hunger campaign was a wonderful way to get the students even more excited about Halloween – it’s been a great experience.”
