If you see smoke in Novato, it is a control burn in Sonoma County, according to Marin County Fire.
A control burn is a technique used in forest management, where a fire is intentionally ignited and contained within a designated area.
Fire officials said they did not know the exact location of the fire however those who saw the smoke said it was off Highway 101.
