Sex Offender Arrested During Halloween Compliance Check in Marin County

Probation officers arrested one sex offender during compliance checks in Fairfax, San Anselmo, Corte Madera, San Rafael and Novato.

NOVATO, CA - Probation officers arrested one sex offender during a compliance check of 16 on Friday in Marin County as Halloween approaches, county officials said today.

The officers along with Novato police detectives and county sheriff's deputies conducted unannounced compliance checks on the registered sex offenders and 15 were in compliance.

The offender who was arrested failed to disclose and register the address where they were living, according to county officials.

The compliance checks were made in the cities of Fairfax, San Anselmo, Corte Madera, San Rafael and Novato.

Probation officers want children to have a safe Halloween and the holiday is a high-risk time for sex offenders, county officials said.

The probation officers contacted the offenders and searched their homes for items that would violate their probation terms. Checks were made of the offenders' home computers, phones, and other electronic devices.

Probation department officials are focusing resources on and providing the highest level of supervision to the offenders most likely to re-offend, county officials said.

Probation department officials are also supporting and collaborating with treatment programs and other services to help rehabilitate the offenders.
