Shofar Factory in Novato
INTERACTIVE "SHOFAR FACTORY" BRINGS HIGH HOLIDAY TRADITIONS TO LIFE Kids to craft and sound the ram's horn in preparation for the New Year

In preparation for the Jewish New Year, children across Marin will play a special role in ushering in the High Holidays by crafting their very own ram's horn instrument, known as the "Shofar", at Chabad Jewish Center of Novato’s "Shofar Factory" on Sunday, September 21 at 7430 Redwood Bl. Suite D Novato, Ca 94945
The children--with appropriate adult supervision--will help to cure, measure, saw, drill, and polish a real ram's horn to transform it into a working Shofar instrument. When the horns are complete, participants will learn how to perform the traditional sequence of notes sounded on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This unique event brings children together for a hands-on, exciting educational journey exploring the history and significance of the holiday and the shofar.
The shofar is the central symbol of Rosh Hashanah, which is celebrated this year on September 25 and 26.

Hosting the Interactive Shofar Factory is one of many Chabad’s Family Holiday programs, which links Jewish learning to Jewish practice through a series of creative, hands-on experiences.
"Studies have shown that children absorb more when they are actively engaged in the educational process, than simply listening to a lecture in the classroom," remarked Mrs. Adina Landa Co-Director of the Center. "This is why our Jewish Kids Club, Teens club and Holiday programs offers a multi-sensory approach to Jewish learning. Our goal is to encourage Jewish kids and their families to enjoy and appreciate Judaism by offering fun and positive educational experiences. In the case of the ram's horn we hope the activity will encourage children to explore and practice the Jewish New Year."
High Holiday services will be at Novato’s City Hall. Rosh Hashanah services will be on Thursday, Sept. 25. Yom Kippur services will be on Sat, Oct. 4th. Both days will be at 10:00 AM. All are welcome. Free of charge. "According to Tradition, at the New Year the Doors of Heaven are open; G-d accepts all prayers, from anyone," explains the Rabbi. "The least we can do is open our doors as well, to the entire community.“
The event is free of charge. To make your own Shofar costs $15 per person (optional).
