Smoke From Camp Fire Visible In Marin County

The rapidly-spreading Camp Fire in Butte County​ sparked Thursday near the town of Paradise.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Smoke from a rapidly-spreading wildfire in Butte County is visible in Marin County, according to county officials.

The blaze, called the Camp Fire, broke out around 6:30 a.m. in the Feather River Canyon, near the town of Paradise, according to Cal Fire. By 10 a.m., the fire had burned 5,000 acres.

Marin County officials posted photos on social media of smoke from the Camp Fire as seen from the Civic Center in San Rafael. There is currently no fire in Marin County.

The smoke prompted the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to issue an air quality advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area through Friday. The Bay Area is expected to experience air quality impacts as smoke from the Camp Fire moves into the region, according to the air district.

Officials with the Marin County Fire Department advised residents to only call 911 if they see visible fire or a building column of smoke within the county.
