Apply by 12/01 - Soroptimist Seeking Young Local Volunteer Applicants for Violet Richardson Award Program

Application Deadline - 12/01 - Soroptimist Seeking Young Local Volunteer Applicants for Violet Richardson Award Program

Soroptimist International of Novato is seeking applicants for its recognition program targeted to young women who make the community and world a better place. The Violet Richardson Award honors young women, between the ages of 14 and 17, who live, work or attend schools in Novato, for volunteer action such as fighting drugs, preventing crime and violence, cleaning up the environment, working to end discrimination and poverty and many other volunteer activities.

As a service organization of business and professional women volunteers, Soroptimist believes that by acknowledging young women’s volunteer involvement now, they will grow up to be vital and contributing members of the community.

Soroptimist International of Novato presents awards up to $1,000. Applications for the award program can be found on www.Soropnovato.org (under Project/Violet Richardson Award) or by contacting Vicki Campbell at (415) 892-7370 or on email at vlcampbell@comcast.net. Deadline for application is December 1, 2014.

The award program is named after Violet Richardson, the president of the first Soroptimist club in 1921. Richardson believed in personal responsibility and the motto, “It’s what you do that counts.” She lived her life accordingly, as an active member in her community who was committed to creating opportunities for girls and young women. Soroptimist established this award to honor the memory of this unique woman and her dedication to volunteer action. Soroptimist, a 501(c)(3) organization that relies on charitable donations and fundraising projects to support its programs, also powers LiveYourDream.org--an online community offering offline volunteer opportunities in support of women and girls.
