UPDATE: No Shooter Found at Marin Civic Center, Source of Sound Determined

Officials investigated a report of shots fired at the civic center on Election Tuesday.

UPDATE 12:11 P.M.:

A report of shots fired in the area of the Marin County Civic Center has been found to be unwarranted, according to authorities.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office reports they have cleared the location, having been unable to find any indication of a shooter in the area. Instead, they say a loud sound heard in the area was from nearby construction.

“Sheriff’s Deputies checked the area and were unable to find a source [of shots fired],” the agency stated at 12:01 p.m.— just about 25 minutes after their first public alert warning residents to steer clear of the center.

“[The] area is clear,” police said.

Marin County sheriff’s officials are investigating reports of shots fired near Marin’s civic center, an alert from police states.

Details are extremely limited at this time, but officials say that there is police activity in the area. The incident was first reported just after 11:30 a.m., at the center, located 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid the location for the time being.
