Whitney Mceachern Named Assistant Principal At Novato District San Jose Middle School

The Novato Unified School District is pleased to announce that Whitney McEachern has been named Assistant Principal at San Jose Middle School pending Board approval on May 5, 2020, effective July 1, 2020. Ms. McEachern has been with NUSD for 11 years. Assistant Principal Gabe Lund resigned from his Assistant Principal role in March 2020.

Ms. McEachern was most recently an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), AVID Excel, and Leadership teacher. She also served as English Learner Site Coordinator, AVID Site Coordinator, and AVID Excel District Co-Coordinator. Whitney has proven her leadership by serving as administrative designee, BTSA Mentor, Instructional Coach, Literacy Coach, and GATE Leadership Team Member. Prior to these positions, Whitney was a Core English/History teacher. Her professional development includes best practices in student body organizations, bullying, the National Equity Project, English Learners, Project Based Learning, and Gifted and Talented Education.

I plan to further NUSD’s mission to engage, inspire, and empower, with a focus on encouraging all learners to take their success into their own hands, while supporting students on their journeys. As a product of NUSD, I have always been drawn to the Novato Unified School District having attended schools here from first through twelfth grades. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back to the community that shaped who I am today, both as a person and educator,” commented Ms. McEachern.

San Jose Middle School Principal Debi Richardson said, “Whitney has been an important and trusted teacher leader at SJMS for many years. We value her expertise, her boundless enthusiasm, her positive outlook and her deep caring for students. She is truly a testament to her fine education in Novato Unified schools and to a work environment that fosters and rewards excellence.”

Superintendent Kris Cosca added, “We are so excited for Whitney and San Jose Middle School. As a Novato native, Whitney understands the community and is deeply committed to ensuring that our students have every opportunity to achieve at the highest level. She will bring that commitment to this new role.”

Ms. McEachern is a proud Novato resident, with a child currently enrolled in a NUSD school and two more to follow. Her family loves the Novato community, and looks forward to raising their children here for years to come! She is a passionate educator, running enthusiast, and avid gardener.
