Woman, Dog Killed After Being Struck By Car In Novato: Police

NOVATO, CA — A 59-year-old woman and her dog were killed after being struck by a car while crossing Novato Boulevard on Monday night, police said.

Novato police responded around 9 p.m. to the collision near Novato Boulevard and St. Paul Circle.

Investigators said the woman was crossing Novato Boulevard with her dog when an eastbound sedan driven by an 18-year-old man struck them.

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital, where lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and she died from her injuries, police said. Her dog also died.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Police said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Members of the Novato Police Department's Traffic Investigation Team and Crime Scene Investigations unit were investigating the collision.

Novato Boulevard was closed between McClay Road and Grant Avenue following the crash but had reopened to traffic by Tuesday.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division was handling the death investigation. The woman's identity had not been released pending notification of her family.
