Work in the Garden for Family Volunteer Day
Calling all parents and children, cousins and friends - join us on Nov. 21 for Family Volunteer Day in the gardens at New Beginnings Center!
Join your family for a day of volunteering from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 21, in the gardens at New Beginnings Center, an 80-bed homeless shelter operated in Novato by Homeward Bound of Marin.
The project marks Family Volunteer Day and celebrates the close of National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. New Beginnings Center is located at 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway in Novato’s Hamilton neighborhood.
Volunteers will prepare the soil, spread mulch, plant and dig in compost in the 26-row produce garden, which provides fruit and vegetables for shelter residents as well as the on-site Fresh Starts Culinary Academy.

New Beginnings Center opened in 2000 as the first homeless shelter in the nation to be built on a decommissioned military base. It is part of a continuum of care provided by Homeward Bound of Marin, the county’s chief provider of residential and support services for homeless families and individuals.
