📰 News we're reading

• Fireworks rules vary across the Five Cities area this Fourth of July (ksby.com) — If you live in Oceano, all consumer fireworks are completely banned this Fourth of July, and sheriff’s deputies will be patrolling unincorporated areas like Oceano and Nipomo for violations. While Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande still allow limited “safe and sane” fireworks, Oceano residents face potential $1,000-per-firework fines and anonymous Crime Stoppers tips could earn rewards for reporting illegal sales.

• California's Iconic Pismo Clams Face a Familiar Threat as Populations Recover (edhat.com) — Oceano-area beachgoers are being warned that wildlife officers are actively patrolling Oceano Dunes and nearby beaches and recently cited three people there for keeping nearly 100 undersized Pismo clams. If you dig for clams, you’ll need a license, a measuring device, and must follow strict size and bag limits to help the recovering population.
