11 Residents, 1 Cat Displaced In Apartment Fire In Oceanside

The fire sparked at the Silver Oak Apartments, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

OCEANSIDE, CA — Eleven residents and one cat were displaced after a fire damaged an apartment complex over the weekend in Oceanside, authorities said.

The fire sparked shortly after midnight Saturday at the Silver Oak Apartments at 511 Canyon Drive, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

Crews found a first-story unit fully engulfed in flames. The blaze threatened nearby units, but firefighters knocked down the flames within 13 minutes, and contained the fire to the first floor of the two-story apartment complex, according to the department.

One resident was assessed and released for reported smoke inhalation, officials said. No further injuries were reported.

"The apartment of origin sustained significant damage to contents," officials said. "However, due to early activation of 911 and quick action by fire crews, the fire was prevented from extending into connected units."

The Red Cross worked to provide support for the displaced residents and pet.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
