- Five San Diego County projects targeting a wide range of issues from infrastructure to homelessness will be funded by a $1.5 trillion spending package approved by Congress this week. $2.2 million will go for a year-round, 50-bed homeless shelter in Oceanside with wrap-around services. The San Diego projects will receive more than $18 million in funding after the appropriations package is signed by President Joe Biden next week, which is all but certain. The bill passed the Senate Thursday and the House last week. (NBC San Diego)
- In case you haven't heard yet, it's time to spring forward on Sunday. Officially, daylight saving time 2022 in California will begin at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 13. But why are we still having to go through this ritual twice a year? Many Californians remember that Proposition 7 was approved by nearly 60 percent of voters in 2018. The ballot measure supported allowing the California State Legislature to change the dates and times of the daylight saving time period. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- State Lawmakers want to help Californians facing high gas prices. Here's how each of the current proposals would work, and what they would mean for Californians. Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed pausing tax increase on gas sellers and Republican state lawmakers have pushed for suspending the tax entirely in the short term. Those plans would likely reduce the price of gas, but it's not clear by how much. This week Newsom teased a possible rebate to deal with gas prices. ( CalMatters)
- Ethnicity, guns, and accusations of being a business failure are all being used as weapons in the race for Mike Levin's congressional seat. And that's just between the Republicans. March 11 is the deadline for candidates to file to run in the June 7 primary to to unseat two-term Democratic incumbent Mike Levin. Orange County Supervisor Bartlett of Dana Point is not afraid to lash out against former San Juan Capistrano councilman Maryott. They and Oceanside city councilman Christopher Rodriguez are the three prominent Republicans hoping to finish in the top two in June to represent the new 49th district which runs from San Onofre to Del Mar. - The Registrar of Voters is seeking temporary election workers for the June 7 Gubernatorial Primary Election. Election workers can earn up to $20 an hour depending on the position. There is a particular need for election workers to manage the operations of ballot drop box locations and site managers for vote centers around the county. (Press Release Desk)
