The moving process is a special event that is exciting and is the first step in your next adventure. However, it can also be exhausting, time consuming, and seem very repetitive! This is especially true for military families and those that are downsizing from large homes, where the tasks are often and many times a large endeavor.

Here are a few tips to facilitate a smooth relocation process so that you can stay organized and as stress-free as possible.

  • Plan Ahead- Calendar the Tasks up to your Move Date and create your moving contact list. Take pictures of your new space, so you can visual what needs to go with you during the packing process and what you can move easily.
  • Start the Declutter process early- Waiting until last minute to declutter can cause stress and headache. You may likely find yourself moving ‘baggage’ that you do not need any longer. Prolonging this causes more work at the tail end of your move and added decisions after the move into your new home.
  • Plan a yard sale and donations pick up. Line this up a 2-3 weeks in advance of your move.Getting rid of unnecessary items early frees up your mind to accomplish remaining tasks and facilitates the packing process.
  • Schedule plenty of help from packers to your cleaning crew. I can’t tell you how many times that I have heard from clients that they had someone lined up, then they didn’t show up! Avoid this stress, by having a back-up list of people ready to help during the move.
  • Store what you do not need- This allows you to move with your necessities and leave some of the larger items and sentimental items for a later date. A great idea for those downsizing locally and military families that will be returning in a short time

Keeping your move as organized as possible, will not only make your move easier, but you will be able to optimize your energy with your loved ones and saying good-bye’s.
